Format: State-County-Climate/LeafSize-UniqueFeature-SerialNumber

1. State (2 letters)

  • Use standard state abbreviations (e.g., VA for Virginia, CA for California).
  • Reflects the state where the cultivar is registered or developed.

2. County (3 letters)

  • Use the first three letters of the county name where the cultivar originated or was bred.
    • Example: FAI for Fairfax County, LOU for Loudoun County.

3. Climate/Weather Patterns (1 digit)

  • A number to indicate the general climate type or weather pattern of the region:
    • 1: Cool temperate
    • 2: Warm temperate
    • 3: Subtropical
    • 4: Tropical

4. Leaf Size (1 letter)

  • Represents the size of the tea plant leaves:
    • S: Small-leaf types
    • L: Large-leaf types
    • M: Medium-sized leaves

5. Unique Features (2 letters)

  • A code to represent specific, distinguishing traits of the cultivar:
    • RS: Resistance to stress (cold, drought, etc.)
    • DI: Disease-resistant
    • HA: High aroma
    • YL: Yellow leaves
    • HL: High leaf yield
    • CQ: Superior cup quality

6. Serial Number (3 digits)

  • A sequential number to ensure uniqueness within the category.

Example Registration Codes

  1. VA-LOU-2-S-HA-001
    • A tea cultivar from Virginia (VA), Loudoun County (LOU), warm temperate climate (2), small-leaf type (S), high aroma (HA), and the first entry in this category.
  2. CA-MON-3-L-DI-045
    • A large-leaf cultivar from California (CA), Monterey County (MON), subtropical climate (3), resistant to disease (DI), and the 45th registered in this category.
  3. GA-HAB-1-M-RS-078
